This image was taken at the Mirador 49 Boulevard East lookout spot at Old Glory Park in Weehawken, New Jersey. The lookout is just in front of the intersection of 49th Street and JFK Boulevard. Reference the GPS coordinate in satellite view. I stood facing southeast so that the Empire State Building was directly in my view.
The easiest way to get there is to take a bus via the Lincoln Tunnel from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.
By Bus:
- Take NJ Transit 165 bus going toward Westwood
- Get off at Blvd East 47/48th Street
- In 144 feet, the destination will be on your right

Blue Hour
As long as the weather is mild, you can get a similar view year round.
I recommend taking this photo at night — specifically at blue hour — when the sun has just set and the city lights turn on.
Field tips
I think that a 55mm (normal lens) is the perfect focal length for this location, giving you details of the buildings while still having a broad view of skyline.
Play around with composing different parts of the skyline. There are endless views and vantage points in this area!
For an added element of depth, try capturing the Hudson River in the foreground if your image.
