Canarsie Pier Lights

This image is of the lights along the water on the right side of the Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn. Once you walk through the Canarsie pier entrance sign, turn right and head toward the sidewalk running along the water. Foggy days can happen any month of year, although October thru December tend to be the foggiest times, especially after a day of rain. It’s also the quietest season of the year, so you won't have to worry as much about the crowd.

I recommend visiting early in the morning when the lights are on and the fog is dense — the combination brings a nice pop of white light into the fog.

Experiment with different perspectives of the lights along the pier. I chose a view which created a nice vanishing point for the lights down the length of the pier, which was further emphasized by processing the image in black and white.

This location is very open so experiment with other focal lengths when composing your shot.

This location is a popular fishing spot so take advantage of the subjects on the pier.

The circular loop in front of the pier is great for long exposures so make sure to bring a tripod.

Take a stroll through Canarsie Park and enjoy soccer fields, basketball courts and a skate park.

Paerdegat Athletic Club (500 Paerdegat Ave N) is also nearby and equipped for rock climbing, swimming and fitness.
