This lesser-known pier sign in Canarsie is a perfect spot to capture a black and white movie scene when the dense fog rolls in.

Morning
Foggy days can happen any month of year, although October thru December tend to be the foggiest times, especially after a day of rain. It’s also the quietest season of the year, so you won't have to worry as much about the crowd.
I recommend visiting early in the morning when the lights are on and the fog is dense — the combination brings a nice pop of white light into the fog.
Field tips
This location can be bare so it is best to think of a concept to capture in advance. I live in the neighborhood and I've had this scene in my mind since I was young. The main reason I took this shot is because I find that not so many people document Canarsie Pier — the icon in the mist.
This location is very open so experiment with other focal lengths when composing your shot.
I edited this photo black and white to contrast my wife and her umbrella from the fog. Using monochrome helps emphasize the white of the fog against the darker elements in the shot.
