I took this photograph from Squid Park Bridge, looking onto the East River and downtown Manhattan. Located near Cranberry Street and Columbia Heights, Squibb Park is home to one of the more unique bridges in NYC. Reference the GPS coordinate. By Subway: - Closest station: High Street - Brooklyn Bridge (A or C) - Head west on Cranberry St - Turn right on Columbia Heights - Squibb Park Bridge will be on your left

Tips

When to go

Best season

June, July, August, September

Best time

Late afternoon, Sunset
I took this photo in September, when the trees were a vibrant green color. For similar conditions, I recommend going in the summer months.
With the sun setting behind the city in the late afternoon, you'll have a softer light that will cast a beautiful glow onto your photo.

Field tips

Be aware of bikers and other pedestrians. On a summer day, this path is very crowded and you want to respect everyone's space.
Use a wide-angle lens (24mm) to capture the entirety of the bridge, water, landscape and city skyline.
I love the juxtaposition of the trees against the bridge and city. It's a true example of life in the concrete jungle of New York! To get a similar vibe, it's especially important to visit in the summer.

Do nearby

Walk along the bridge to Pier 1 at Brooklyn Bridge Park. This waterfront area has panoramic views of Manhattan, a picnic-perfect park and local vendors, like artisan lemonade stand Lizzmonade.
Explore the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. The historic brownstones are a staple in the community and I highly recommend spending some extra time in the area.
