This is a classic spot for New York photography, but I added my own unique perspective by focusing on two iconic symbols of city, showing off its architecture in a new way.

I took this photo in front of the Fifth Avenue Building Clock facing south with a view of the Flatiron Building in the background. This location is at the intersection of 5th Avenue and East 23rd street in the Flatiron District of Manhattan.
By Subway:
- Closest station: 23 Street ( R or W Trains)
- Turn left on East 23rd Street
- Turn right on 5th Ave
- The clock will be on your left outside of the Eataly Gelato store
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Blue Hour, Night
Capture this view of the clock and Flatiron Building any month of year.
The clock will pop against the building when it's illuminated, so I suggest going after blue hour when it's lit up.
Field tips
Be aware of traffic and people walking by since this is an especially busy location for locals and tourists.
To get the detailing of the clock, use a telephoto lens. It will also isolate the clock so the Flatiron Building isn't the main focus.
Try framing the clock in the middle of your shot to create a sense of symmetry.

Do nearby
Go to Madison Square Park to check out the original Shake Shack. Even though it's now a chain, this location is my favorite because it's the first one!
Shop the iconic designer stores along 5th Avenue. Even if you just window shop, it's worth it to see all of the elaborate window displays -- especially during the holidays.
