This image of Little Island was taken inside the park underneath the tulip-shaped structures near the entrance. The easiest way to get to this location is to take public transportation and then walk.
Once you approach the park grounds, walk over the south entrance bridge and turn around to get this view of the path and unique concrete structures. You can also reference the GPS coordinates for the exact place where I stood.
Note: Since the park was built in summer 2021, it may not appear in "Satellite Photos" on Google Maps.
By public transportation:
- Closest station: 14 Street (via 1, 2, or 3 Line)
- Head northeast on 7th Ave toward W 14th St
- Turn left onto W 14th St
- Continue west

Tips
When to go
Best season
May, June, July, August, September
Best time
Sunrise
If you want to include the trees on the upper section of Little Island, like I did in my photo, then I suggest visiting in the late spring and summer months when the greenery is blooming.
Sunrise lighting will change quickly. Aim to take as many photos as you can so you can illuminate the entrance and add a sense of depth to your image.
Additionally, the early morning will be less crowded so you'll have more freedom to photograph without people obstructing your view.
Field tips
Make sure to bring a wide-angle lens to experiment capturing the landscape of the park and unique cement columns. If your lens is too narrow, you won't be able to include these elements and your photo will have an entirely different look.
Try getting close and tilting the lens up to create more of a dramatic image that accentuates the concrete tulip columns.
After you shoot, you can correct for distortion by using the transform tools in Photoshop or Lightroom.

Chelsea Piers and the High Line are just a few minutes from this location. Both options offer walking experiences in the city.
If you're in the mood to visit a museum, I recommend checking out the Whitney Museum of American Art. The space highlights American artists and their contributions to 20th century and contemporary works of art.
