Spring Studios Glass Window view over Tribeca

This photo of Tribeca through a glass wall was taken from inside Spring Studios' Studio 4. The building is accessible by public transportation or by car. Once in the studio, I stood in the center of the room in Studio 4 and faced west toward the window. Before arriving to Spring Studios, you'll need to make an appointment. This indoor space of Spring Studios can be photographed all months of the year; however, I'd recommend shooting on a clear, sunny day, to capture the strong shadows cast across the studio floor.

To capture the beautiful long light piercing through the windows and creating elegant shadows, I suggest visiting in the late afternoon. Since the windows are west-facing, sunset is also a great time to shoot here.

This photo studio is massive, and worth the hefty price tag if you have some big ideas you want to shoot. A professional model, some backdrops or set design and wardrobe are highly recommended. If you're just exploring the city and looking for quintessential New York street photography, you can probably skip this one; however, if you have some serious conceptual ideas and want the space to execute them in, this is a great place to be! Adjust your exposure for the buildings outside the glass. The backlit window panes will create strong geometric shadows on the floor, and focusing on the view will create a layered scene.

Add a model to your shot. Not only will it create more visual interest, but having a human element in your composition will also provide a sense of the window's enormous size.

Tribeca is one of Manhattan's most vibrant neighborhoods and the area surrounding Spring Studios is ripe with many bars, restaurants and cafes. Wander through the streets for spontaneous photo opportunities or pop into a picturesque eatery like Frenchette's, which is a charming local Parisian-style bistro.

If you're interested in fashion, a quick walk east will take you into Soho. The former artist's enclave is now a neighborhood that contains some of the trendiest boutique shopping in the city.

For a breath of fresh air, there are multiple parks nearby that you can visit. Try one or visit all of the following: Tribeca Park, Albert Capsouto Park or the Soho Grand Dog Park.
