This image was taken at Taughannock Falls, facing toward the waterfall.
Route yourself to the Taughannock Falls Overlook Visitors Center and park. You’ll find the staircase on your right. Follow the signage for the Taughannock Falls Gorge Trail. Take this trail all the way to the end until you meet the mouth of the waterfall. I stood in the water to get this shot.

Sunset
Visit Taughannock Falls in the late-spring or summer. Everything will be in full bloom and the green foliage will be especially vibrant after the rainy season in early spring.
For a different perspective, you can visit this location in the fall to capture the changing leaves, or in the winter when the waterfall is frozen.
I took this photo during sunset on a cloudy day. The lighting was soft and the color of the moss against the rock really popped.
Field tips
Make sure to come prepared with waterproof shoes and clothing if you want to stand in the water for this shot.
I'd say that the wider your lens, the better your photo will turn out. I used an 18mm focal lengths to frame the waterfall and surrounding canyon.
Look for an interesting landscape element to frame in the foreground of your image.
