Abiqua Falls with Autumn Leaves

avatar
@jesseroos
Abiqua Falls is one of the most iconic waterfalls in Oregon — and for good reason! Once you've arrived, you'll be absolutely enthralled by the incredible natural amphitheater of the gorge and the pristine waters adorned with falling autumn leaves. It's truly a natural wonder in the PNW! While it's not too long of a hike to reach this view, the road can be a bit rough. It's steep on the way down and can get quite muddy, depending on the time of year. It's important to keep those factors in mind before making the trip out to this location.

This image was taken looking onto Abiqua Falls. To reach the trailhead (44.930983, -122.567634), you'll need to have a high-clearance vehicle, or you'll likely be forced to park on the road and walk the rest of the way in. I recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle as well, but it's not entirely necessary if it's not too muddy. The trailhead itself is near a locked gate, which is where you'll want to park. Once parked, walk back up the road you just drove and the trail will be on the right side. If you had to park before the gate and you're walking the road, then the trailhead will be on your left. The trail is well-marked and has a few ropes that you'll need to use in order to get down. Most able-bodied people shouldn't have too much difficulty with it, but keep that in mind before embarking on this adventure and of course, be careful! Driving Directions: - Use GPS mapping to guide you to the town of Scotts Mills - From Scotts Mills, turn south on Crooked Finger Road - Continue on Crooked Finger Road for approximately 9.5 miles until the pavement ends, then continue for approximately another 1.5 miles until you reach another dirt road that reads CF 300 on your right - After taking CF 300, continue straight at every junction for about 2.5 miles, before reaching the locked gate where you will park
