The Sligachan Old Bridge has an impressive history on its own, but what makes this location so incredible is the old folk tale about the enchanted waters that run under the viaduct. Legend has it that if you wash your face in the River Sligachan you'll gain eternal beauty — and whether or not you believe in the story, it's well worth the trip to the Isle of Skye to experience the bridge's undeniable presence.

This image of the Sligachan Old Bridge was taken from the south side of A87. I stood on the side of the road and then shot directly south to photograph this perspective.
I recommend driving to this location and instead of taking your car on A87, I think it's best to park at Sligachan Old Bridge Car Park (57.290460, -6.170907) and then walk across A87.
Tips
When to go
Best season
April, May, June, July, August, September, October
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Excluding the winter months, you should be able to visit the Sligachan Old Bridge during any season and encounter similar landscape conditions.
The weather is often times unpredictable on the Isle of Skye, but overall it's mostly cloudy during the day.
Field tips
A wide-angle lens will allow you to photograph the entire bridge. For reference, I shot this image with a 24mm lens.
Try to position yourself so you're in line with the middle of the bridge. This technique will create a sense of balance and symmetry.
I also recommend getting some close-up shots of the bridge. Walk around the area and see what other compositions you can create that highlight the centuries-old stone architecture.

Do nearby
Make an overnight trip out of the visit to the bridge and stay at Sligachan Bunkhouse. The hostel has private rooms and a shared kitchen, which is a great way to meet people when traveling.
If you're a fan of hiking, head east and venture up Glamaig. The climb is steep and often times slippery, so I really only suggest checking it out if you're an experienced climber.
