This location is off the East Coast Park Service Rd Path and is best accessed via car or Bus 48 and exit at The Summit stop. The actual spot I took this photograph is between Carpark F2 and F3.
Look for the short circular stumps along East Coast Park Service Rd. By car, you will see one side of the road has blue stumps, but when the road opens and both sides have stumps, you’ll see an opening to the bunches of flowers (closer to carpark F3).
Tips
When to go
Best season
January, February, March, November, December
Best time
Sunrise, Morning, Sunset
The bougainvillea flowers tend to be at their fullest blooms from November to March. A month or two late / early you will not find the same bloom (and they surely won’t be worth photographing)!
The early hours of the day (07:00-07:30am) offer a naturally soft glow. If you visit around sunset the flowers will be front-lit and more likely to have an orange glow.
Field tips
Beware of ants on the grass and the occasional sand fly if you walk near the beach!
By using a close up portraiture lens you can remove distractions in the background.
Suggest your model to engage and blend in with the blooming flowers. By wearing white they can create an angelic feel; by wearing black for a more edgy feel! Be creative with your fashion.
This is a great area to shoot more candid and voyeuristic shots of your model.
