When to go
Best time
Mid-day, Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to shoot under the sheltered walkway.
If you visit during mid-day to late-afternoon, it won’t be too hot and you’ll have adequate light to illuminate the walkway. Try to avoid lunch hour and dinner time, unless you intend to capture the bustling street vibes of Chinatown.
I visited during a weekday afternoon (4-5pm) and I saw less than ten people in the 15 minutes I was photographing. If you would like to bring your own model or would like to try a #minimal_people shot, visit either early morning between 9-11am or between 3-5pm.
Field tips
Any normal lens will do – I took this photograph with my iPhone 6S!
I stood in the middle of the walkway and shot from the waist level to get the perfect symmetrical shot with equal headroom and foreground.
The walkway is great for symmetrical shots. You may use your camera’s grid to ensure you capture its symmetry!
