When to go
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the Mandarin Oriental’s façade.
In the morning (09:00-10:30) the light hits this side of Mandarin Oriental at an angle, creating an array of great tones and shadows.
Field tips
I aligned the camera to the corners to ensure symmetry (vertical and diagonal alignment).
Be patient and try to photograph someone coming out onto their balcony. Makes the shot feel more human!
I suggest using a zoom lens since the Mandarin Oriental is in the distance. Also, where you stand and how you hold the camera will have great impact on how much of the façade’s patterns are exposed. Take your time to compose the perfect shot.
