Did you know that shades of yellow are thought to make you instantly happier when you see them? This location proves that theory to be true as the burst of color painted on pillars creates a cheerful backdrop for a portrait shot.

This portrait photo of the yellow pillar and model was taken outside of the store called Tin Sing Goldsmiths Pte Ltd. I stood on the sidewalk of South Bridge Road and shot toward the pillar for this perspective. The easiest way to get there is to take public transportation and then walk. By MRT: - Closest station: Chinatown (via Downtown Line or North East Line) - Head southeast on Upper Cross St toward South Bridge Rd - Turn right onto South Bridge Rd

Field tips

A wide-angle lens allowed me to capture more of the background, as well as the other yellow pillar, which created depth.
I played into the yellow architecture by having my model wear a yellow shirt. The monochrome look makes everything a bit more cohesive.
Don't limit yourself and your model to one pose. Experiment and get creative to find which angle you like best!

Do nearby

Explore the historical area of Chinatown. I highly recommend checking out Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which is a sacred space designed in a Tang dynasty style.
