Block 7B HDB Commonwealth Ave view of Cemetery

This photograph of the Ying Fo Fui Kun cemetery was taken at the top of the carpark of Block 7B HDB Commonwealth Ave. Enter the carpark and take the lift to Level 6. Exit right and walk towards the back right of the carpark – you should see the cemetery below. The official hours of the cemetery are from 8am – 5pm, but there’s an opening in the back of the cemetery which you can always access. By MRT: - Closest MRT Station: Commonwealth (East West Line) - Take exit “B” - Head northeast on Commonwealth Ave - You’ll see the main entrance of the cemetery on your right (for your model) - You’ll see Block 7B on your right (after the cemetery) Address: Block 7B HDB Commonwealth Ave

All months of the year are suitable to photograph the cemetery tombstones.

During mid-day the light will truly bring out the details and fine grains of the mosaic tombstones, as well as its shadows. The cemetery is most likely to be empty during the weekday.

Pay close attention to the shadows and shades of the blocks when creating your composition.

I deliberately composed the tombstone blocks creating downward lines (I don’t prefer to see things that look flat). Experiment with these leading lines!

Using rule of thirds, I placed my model in the two-third of the frame.

My style is small people in big places, so I placed my model on the upper side of the frame to give the overall picture more depth. The model’s placement also aligns well with the rules of thirds.
