Watts Staircase

Located near the famous Watts Towers, this staircase can be accessed from Graham Street. The stairs lead to the train station across the tracks.

With consistent weather in California, there is no bad time of year to visit the Watts staircase.

The featured image was taken in the late-afternoon. Due to the staircase being located outside, the ideal times to shoot here are sunrise and sunset when the light is lower allowing for longer shadows and warmer colors.

I used a wide-angle lens (16mm) to capture as much of the staircase as possible.

When composing, I focused on the leading lines of both the handrails and the overhead structure.

The day was overcast which allowed the sky to match the recently white painted staircase.

This location is a few short steps away from the famous Watts Towers.
