Designed by Petersen Architekten in 2012, this famous façade has become known as the "Rainbow Hotel" because of its colorful exterior. You can find basic geometries (cubes, cuboids, disks, lines, points) in every corner of this intricate building, and complemented by the vibrant stripes, this location offers endless opportunities to let your creativity run wild.

This image of the rainbow façade was taken on the south end of the Meininger Hotel Berlin Airport. I stood facing north on the median in the middle of lexander-Meißner-Straße to get this view. By public transportation: - Closest station: Grünbergallee (via S9 and S45 lines) - Head east on Schwalbenweg toward Am Seegraben/B96a - Turn right onto Am Seegraben/B96a - The destination will be on the right Address: Meininger Hotel Berlin Airport, Alexander-Meißner-Straße 1, 12526 Berlin

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Because there isn't any landscape in your shot, you can photograph the rainbow façade of the Meininger Hotel Berlin Airport during any month.
Morning, midday and late afternoon will produce similar lighting conditions. In my personal opinion, I like shooting here midday when the strong sunlight reflects on the structure, which will make the technicolored architecture pop a bit more.

Field tips

I recommend using a wide-angle lens (11mm) to capture the façade of the building. If your lens is too narrow, you won't be able to photograph the entire scene.
Make sure to incorporate the sky in your shot, which will create a beautiful contrast against the rainbow building.
Either bring along a few friends or wait until a few passerby walk through your frame. Having people in your shot will add a sense of scale.
Check every corner of the building for varying perspectives. Play around with the leading lines and shapes of the structure and see what other compositions you can create.
A telephoto lens would also work amazing here. Get closer to the building and shoot the interception of lines and different geometric shapes that you can find along the building.

Do nearby

If you want to see or photograph the nearby planes taking off, then I recommend checking out the hotel's rooftop.
Visit Landschaftspark Rudow-Altglienicke or Coloniapark for a lesiurely stroll in either park.
