Best season
April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Sunset
It's likely that the lake will be frozen during the winter, so I recommend visiting in the spring, summer and fall months to capture Vineta Church floating on Lake Störmthal.
For similar conditions, avoid harsh light. I took the photo in the morning, but midday and late afternoon will also work if the sunlight isn't too direct.
I suggest coming here during sunset, sunrise or on a foggy day to capture other types of light, too.
Field tips
Follow local drone regulations and permit requirements. In Germany, you're required to have insurance and an address on your drone if it weighs more than 250g (approx. 0.5 lbs).
Since the flight is long (about 2km), make sure your drone battery is full. I would also recommend bringing extra batteries.
Try using a polarizing filter on your drone to avoid reflections from the water.
Position the church in the center of your shot so that it's the main focal point. Having the floating structure in the middle will guide the eye to focus on the unique architecture.

Take the Discovery Tour boat to learn about the history of Vineta and how the floating church came to be.
If you're feeling adventurous, try the Jetlev VINETA-Fly. This jet-pack experience lets you hover over the lake as you're propelled into the air by water.
For both the boat and jet pack tours, you can find more information on the Vineta website: https://www.vineta-stoermthal.de/
