How to get there

The image was taken on the island of List auf Sylt, looking south onto the List West lighthouse. To get this view, you'll have to make your way to the island by taking a ferry to Nord-Sylt from the mainland of Germany. For more information about the ferry check out their website: https://www.syltfaehre.de/en
Once you're on the island, reference the GPS coordinates to locate the exact spot where I stood to get the photo. If you took the ferry with your car, you can park in the parking lot (55.052264, 8.400859), which is southwest of the lighthouse. Please note that if you're driving, you'll have to pay the Ellenbogen toll road (6€).
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the List West lighthouse.
I photographed during midday when there wasn't much sunlight. On overcast days, you can find similar conditions in the morning and midday as well.
If you'd like a soft glowing light, I recommend visiting during sunrise or sunset on a clear day.
Field tips
Get low and use the grass to add depth to the foreground of your image.
Without sunlight, this location can be quite dark. I suggest having your model wear a bright color, like yellow, so that they stand out against the grim sky. Having a model will also add a sense of scale to your shot.
Try positioning the lighthouse in the center of your frame to create symmetry and to draw the eye to the center of the photo.

Do nearby
I recommend visiting another nearby lighthouse, Leuchtturm List-Ost. To get there, head directly east from the List West lighthouse.
