Tap Mum Playground Look Down

From downtown it’ll take you 2+ hours to travel to Grass Island (also known as Tap Mun). Grass Island is served by Tsui Wah Ferry Service. Upon arriving at the island’s Tap Mun Pier, head north (left) on Tap Mun Hoi Pong Street. Walk till the end of the street and you’ll see a path leading to Tap Mun Playground, which is on the east side of the island. It’ll take around 15-20 minutes. All month are suitable to photograph Grass Island.

Since Tap Mun Playground is situated on the east side of the island sunrise is spectacular. You’ll also have great light at sunset (when my featured image was taken).

The island cools off at night so don’t forget to bring a jacket — especially if you’re camping overnight.

The local convenient stores close early so be sure to have enough food and water.

If you’re photographing sunrise, set up early and try to find your preferred angle. The light changes fast so it’s always helpful to have a plan.

Notice the colourful shapes below the playground? Those are tents people are camping in! They add a great feel to the overall photo so try to incorporate them.

Explore the island! Check out the Tin Hua Temple, the fishing villages, or camp overnight at the hilltop. It’s a great area to relax with friends.
