When to go
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can capture clear view of the Tsz Shan Monastery all months of the year, but October through December will have cooler, drier weather, and the skies are generally clear.
Try visiting during the early morning and late afternoon hours. The soft, diffused light at these times creates a calming atmosphere and accentuates the architectural details of the monastery. Additionally, the lower angle of the sun during these hours helps reduce harsh shadows and provides a more even illumination of the Guanyin statue.
Field tips
Before flying a drone, check and follow local drone regulations and permit requirements.
Be respectful of the monastery's rules and the visitors seeking a peaceful experience. Avoid using flash photography and maintain a quiet presence while capturing your images.
Ensure that you carefully consider the placement of the statue in relation to the surrounding landscape when composing your shot. In my image, it is towering over the center.
Use a polarizing filter to reduce glare from the bronze Guanyin statue and enhance the vibrancy of the surrounding greenery.
Incorporate foreground elements, such as flowers or stone lanterns, to add depth and visual interest to your compositions.
Experiment with different angles and perspectives to capture the interplay between the monastery's traditional architecture and the landscape. I prefer a low-angle perspective.
