Canton Rd view of Mong Kok Market

For this composition of the commerce at Mong Kok’s market I faced south on Canton Rd near the Argyle and Canton Rd junction. Route to the GPS coordinate. By MTR:
- Closest MTR Station: Mong Kok (Kwun Tong Line & Tsuen Wan Line)
- Exit “C4”
- Head straight and cross Portland Street
- Cross Shanghai Street
- Cross Reclamation Street until your reach Canton Rd

All months of the year are suitable to photograph the Mong Kok market, although most of the shops close during the Lunar Chinese New Year (usually around January or February).

From blue hour you can capture the crowded scene of the market, including interactions between the people and the owners.

Be careful. It’s a crowed place with lots of people and cars crossing the road.

By using a telephoto lens (135mm) you’ll be able to compress most of the street’s details into your frame — the people, the signboards, and length of the street.

Take your time and wait for the optimal lighting and crowd of people to cross your frame.

I placed my tripod in the middle of the street and took a long exposure (4 sec) to create the blur effect in my image.
