One of my favorite places in Hong Kong to catch blue hour and sunsets. Not for the faint of heart, the views from the top of this hill make up for all the hard work!

How to get there

N22° 20' 05.2566"E114° 09' 50.6516"
Garden Hill, located between Sham Shui Po and Shek Kip Mei, is a small hill with a steep climb. Make your way to "Mei Ho House" and walk along the path next to it to the back of the building to find stairs leading up to the top. It will take about 10 minutes, but it's well worth the effort. Once at the top, there is a lookout that directly faces Sham Shui Po and off in the distance you can see the taller buildings of Tai Kok Tsui and ICC. By MTR: - Closest MTR Station: Sham Shui Po (Tsuen Wan Line) - Take “Exit D2” - Walk down Kwelin Street until you hit Castle Peak Road - Turn left then right and across the Tai Po Road towards Mei Ho house - Take the little path on the side of the house towards the back and climb the stairs all the way to the top

When to go

Best time

Sunset
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the skyline. But, I avoid hiking in the peak summer time and tend to only do outdoor activities towards the end of the year. This shot was taken in September, while still humid, the weather is clearer and gets better as it gets cooler.
My favorite times to drone are at blue hour and sunset. But, that's just because of the amazing colors in the sky and the way the Mavic Pro is able to capture them.

Field tips

Be careful photographing / droning from the top of the hill as there are no railings. Also, be mindful of other photographers and drone pilots at the spot.
You're taking photos from a very high vantage point, so try to "fill the frame." Hong Kong is a very dense city, so capture that!
For this shot, I used ICC as my main subject, and made sure to align my drone facing the horizon where it is located. Play around with different angles, as they all will result in equally amazing photography!
Consider using an Neutral Density (ND) filter and even try HDR or Bracket shooting modes. This gives you more flexibility later on to edit your photos. The ND filter in the evening allows you take a long exposure, especially with a Mavic where you don’t have control over the aperture, so it helps!

Do nearby

After your shoot, you can spend the rest of the night exploring the lively streets of Sham Shui Po and their night markets. There's also plenty of flavor, with quite a few local restaurants.
