This image was taken on the roof of the W Union Square Hotel in Manhattan. You don't need to have access to a hotel room to get to the roof, but you'll need to be escorted by an employee and security since it's not a public area. You can call ahead or ask an employee to lead you to this spot once you're there. I stood on the back airvent, facing south onto Lower Manhattan. Every part of this roof has a landscape picture you can take. For this specific picture, I put the metal rail in the foreground and focused on the freedom tower in the background.
