When to go
Best season
May, June, July, August, September, October
I shot this drone image of The Storr rock formations in July. For similar conditions, I recommend visiting in the late spring, summer and fall months.
I got to this location in the early morning so I could capture the cross light and shadows that were cast by the sun. In the mornings, there will also be less people, which means having a better chance of snapping a shot without anyone in it.
Field tips
Before flying a drone, check and follow local drone regulations and permit requirements.
Good hiking shoes are essential — especially if it's wet. The trail becomes very slippery when there's been some rain.
Check the weather forecast before you go and take the appropriate gear to suit the conditions. The weather in Scotland can change rapidly and it pays to be well prepared!
I took several images of the same rock formation with my handheld camera on the day I visited, but it wasn't until I took this photo with a drone that I was able to get high enough to include Loch Leathan in the background.
Make sure to fly your drone high enough so you're able to capture the height of the rock formations.

Do nearby
One of my favorite things to see nearby is to visit the towering cliffs of Kilt Rock and the 55 m (180 ft) high Mealt Falls that plunge over the cliffs directly into the sea. Mealt Falls is a short 15-minute drive away, where I also have a location in the app — make sure to check it out!
