When to go
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Visit any month, as the weather condition along The Isle of Skye is generally misty and cloudy.
Given the area is most often cloudy, as long as you visit during daylight, you'll be able to expose a beautiful image like my featured shot. Astrophotography at night would also be great on a clearer night.
Field tips
It was VERY windy when I visited, so definitely bundle up. Shoot at a faster shutter speed to reduce shake.
Capturing the Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls with a wide-angle lens allows you to frame the surrounding context. A telephoto lens will help you zoom into the waterfall and details of the ridge-line.
Given I was photographing at an angle, shooting in portrait orientation made the most sense, allowing me to use the length of the foliage as a leading line towards the waterfall.
If you're going for silky smooth water, bring along a Neutral Density filter to support your long exposure.
