Chinese Garden 7-Storey Pagoda Look Down

This location is in the stairwell of Ru Yun T’a (7-Storey Pagoda) situated on a small hill in the Chinese Garden. It’s an inside shot, so any month is perfect!

If you visit in the morning it will be cooler temperature. If you visit mid-day through the afternoon it will be hot, but you’ll be able to capture cool shadows in the doorway! Since this is a very touristy place, try going during the week if you want a clean shot. That said, people usually go to highest floor anyway (why hang out on a staircase?), so with patience you should be able to get your composition any time of day.

To capture the breadth of the staircase use a wide-angle lens and you’ll have to really reach out with your camera! Hold on tight and don’t drop it.

Let your creative juices flow! Experiment with multiple floors and angles. Even try a “Look Up” shot.

The floor is actually more tarnished than it looks in the image, so consider bringing out the whites in post-processing.
