This photo was taken from the interior façade in one of the only diamond blocks in Singapore — blocks 63, 64, 65 and 66 on Yung Kuang Road connect together to form a diamond with a courtyard in the middle. To get this perspective, you'll have to take the photo from the higher level on Block 63, looking across at the HBD Blocks across the way. Although this is a private residence, you can access this building even if you don't live here. Just make sure to be respectful of the residents. When you enter the apartment complex, reference the GPS coordinates and you'll see where I stood to get this shot. By MRT: - Closest MRT station: LakeSide (East West Line) - Turn right on Boon Lay Way - Turn right on Yuan Ching Road - Turn right on Yung Kuang Road - The estate is on your right Address: Block 63,64 Yung Kuang Road, Singapore

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
The Diamond HBD Blocks on Yung Kuang are suitable for photography year round. Visit anytime of year, as long as it's not too overcast because you'll want strong sunlight for a clean shot.
I recommend photographing at this location midday, when the sun is high in the sky and the natural light is strong enough to highlight out the clean lines of this architectural gem. In the late afternoon, as the sun heads west, the light casting on the building also creates great shadows to play with.

Field tips

Remember to be respectful of residents who live within the complex.
I suggest using a wider lens because you'll be able to capture more of the building lines within your frame and focus on the unique diamond shape of the complex. You can easily crop in later during post-processing.
Add a few models across the complex to add a sense of scale. Be patient and wait for the sunlight to light up the entire building and your subjects.
Symmetry is important at this location. Since there are many lines and varying colors, you'll want to keep everything balanced. Use the middle of the complex to align yourself.
