Way out west is this amazingly symmetrical housing estate that seems to continually stay under the radar in Singapore. Bring along a friend and get creative with the different levels and angles that can be found on every corner of the structure.

This photo was taken from the interior of Yung Kuang Block 63. To get this perspective, you'll have to enter into the residence and then stand in front of the graffiti-covered middle structure. Reference the GPS coordinates to see the exact location where I stood to get this view point. Although this is a private residence, you can access this building even if you don't live here. Just make sure to be respectful of those that live there. By MRT: - Closest MRT station: LakeSide (East West Line) - Turn right on Boon Lay Way - Turn right on Yuan Ching Road - Turn right on Yung Kuang Road - The estate is on your right Address: Block 63,64 Yung Kuang Road, Singapore

Best time

Morning, Mid-day
The Yung Kuang Block 63 apartments are suitable for photography year round. I visited this location with some friends when Art Week was happening in Singapore — hence the awesome artwork on the wall! Before visiting, try to check when Art Week is that year (it changes annually) and then try to visit when there are events happening if you want to capture some art.
Heading there when the sun's high, like in the late morning or early afternoon, is a good time to photograph the light hitting the building. As the sun heads west, the light it casts will give you good shadows to work with for your shot.

Field tips

I shot this photo with an iPhone, but if you have a camera, you'll want to bring along a wide-angle lens to truly capture the building in all its glory. I also think it's best to shoot as wide as you can while you're there and then you can crop and skew the photo in post later.
Make sure to get low to the ground and then take the shot looking up so you can get more of the building in the background.
Symmetry is your best friend here! Try to align the architecture so it's completely symmetrical and you'll be able to capture a photo with straight, even lines that's more pleasing to the eye.
A model will bring a sense of scale to the photo. Get creative and have them experiment with different poses.
