When to go
Best time
Morning, Mid-day
The neon sign is inside the hotel so there’s no need to worry about daylight. Visit anytime!
The bar itself is open 4pm-12am, so I suggest going earlier in the day when there'll be less people going for drinks (i.e avoid happy hour, evening). The installation is somewhat near the entrance of the bar so you will have to give way to people who are walking past, so the less people, the better.
Field tips
The featured image was taken with a 24-70mm lens, but shot at around 45mm, so a normal lens (35mm-50mm) will do just as well. My zoom lens just tends to be my go-to lens as I love the flexibility it gives me!
I didn’t use a tripod but one can be used for better light control. It’s quite a dark corridor.
I positioned myself right in front of the neon as I wanted as much light hitting my face as possible. Of course, you can always be creative and play with silhouettes instead!
Visit the bar afterwards since it also has a great rooftop area which overlooks the harbour, looking out at North Point on the Hong Kong Island side.

Do nearby
Walk along the promenade next to the hotel for nice views of the waterfront.
Whampoa is more of a residential area but I find it a very interesting neighbourhood. Somehow, it feels secluded and in its own bubble even though it's so easy to get to with the new MTR line expansion. I mean, Whampoa has a huge concrete cruise ship that's actually a shopping mall, right in the middle of some of Hong Kong's largest private housing estates!
There's many shops and nice restaurants in the area so I recommend grabbing lunch/dinner there too unless you prefer to travel back to more buzzing areas such as Tsim Sha Tsui.
