The featured image was taken from Lugard Road Lookout on The Peak. It’s a 15-20 minute walk surrounded by trees to the Lookout, but once you reach it the view opens up and you get an amazing view of the entire city.
By MTR:
- Closest MTR Station: Central Station
- Exit “J2” and walk to the lower Peak Tram terminus located on Garden Road for the scenic ride up to The Peak
By Bus:
- Take Bus 15 from Exchange Square bus terminus, or Minibus 1 from MTR Hong Kong Station public transport interchange
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Sunrise
All months are great to capture the amazing city view from Lugard Road, although the skies tend to be most beautiful at sunrise during summer season.
My featured image was taken at sunrise when the light was nice and there were shadows casting off the buildings. Nice light and shadows are also present at sunset. Visiting at night is equally great, as the city lights up and weather cools down a bit, giving a Gotham city kind of vibe.
Field tips
I recommend bringing a range or zoom lens. This will allow you to capture wide perspectives of the city or zoom into parts you find interesting. In my featured image, I shot at 70mm to focus in on the Cheung Kong Centre & Bank of China Tower.
Consider photographing a model (bring lights) and giving the cityscape a blurred bokeh textured background.
There are so many different angles to experiment with. Take your time, walk around Lugard Road and keep photographing 📷.
