When to go
The Great Hall is an interior space unaffected by the seasons, so it's great to visit year-round.
Mid-day is the best time to ensure the Great Hall is flooded with nice, even light throughout.
Field tips
The following are not allowed beyond the Walter B. Ford Great Hall where I captured this image: flash photography, detachable lenses, camera bags, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, additional lights or extension cords.
The DIA enforces its strict policies on photography equipment and may even give you a difficult time bringing a camera into the Main Hall, so please be as discreet as possible and respect the museum staff's wishes. It might behoove you to ask for permission before even attempting the shot.
I kneeled down and used an ultra wide-angle lens (14-24mm at 16mm) to capture the detail of the mosaic marble floors all the way up to the exquisite chandeliers.
