Enter the Fisher Building through the main entrance off of W Grand Blvd (3011 W Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48202).
Once inside you'll see a staircase on your left you'll need to walk up to the second floor. Once you arrive on the second floor, make a right and follow the path to the end of the hall, followed by a left which will put you at the featured view looking down onto the first floor lobby.
Tips
When to go
Best season
December
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
The Fisher Building's lobby is an interior space unaffected by the seasons, but you'll need to visit during holiday season in December to capture the lobby lined with Christmas trees like the featured shot.
Anytime during daylight hours is best to ensure there's light coming through the giant windowpanes at the end of the hall.
Field tips
I used a wide-angle lens (24mm) to fit the jumbo-sized art deco chandelier in the foreground while still being able capture the magnificent marble floors and frescoed ceiling.
There are various angles to shoot from on the second floor, so make sure to move around and experiment shooting from different perspectives between the marble pillars.
Make sure to check out the exterior of the Fisher Building as well — it's the largest marble clad commercial building in the world!
