Washington St view of Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo

This image is of the Manhattan Bridge, photographed from Washington Street in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn. I stood in the middle of the street (please be cautious of traffic) and then faced northwest toward the bridge. To get to the exact location of where I stood, reference the GPS coordinates. The easiest way to get to this spot is by taking public transportation. By Subway: - Closest station: York St (via F Line) - Head north on Jay St toward York St - Turn left onto York St - Turn right onto Washington St

If you wish to capture the full, green trees in your photo (like I have in mine), the spring and summer months will give you the best results of this Washington St view of the Manhattan Bridge.

Shortly after sunrise (maybe 30 minutes) is when I recommend visiting this Dumbo location. Since this spot is very popular among visitors and locals, you'll want to avoid the crowds by going early in the morning. The bright morning sun will also produce similar lighting conditions.

This perspective can only be achieved by standing in the middle of the street. Watch out for cars and proceed with caution when taking your photos.

Try to center yourself in the road with the bridge lined up in the distance. This angle is tricky, so experiment with standing from different viewpoints and make sure you don't cut out the top of the bridge.

I think it's best to use a long, zoom lens to frame your shot (I shot at an 85mm focal length). It'll give the illusion that the bridge is bigger than it seems and it'll also allow you to incorporate more of the street and trees.

For another angle, walk toward the bridge on the west side of the street. You can frame your shot with the Empire State Building perfectly situated in between the Manhattan Bridge.

Dumbo is an incredibly picturesque location! I recommend walking on the waterfront of the Manhattan Bridge toward the Brooklyn Bridge. Along the way, be sure to check out St. Ann’s Warehouse for awesome elevated views of the skyline and river.

Make sure to swing by the playground close to Washington Street. The small, stone beach near the green space provides a beautiful foreground for a shot of the Brooklyn Bridge with Downtown Manhattan behind it.

After you get your shots in Dumbo, walk over the Manhattan Bridge (south pedestrian side) for sweeping views of Downtown Manhattan. This is also an excellent sunset location, so plan accordingly.

If your feet are tired, take the NYC Ferry that departs near the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. You can ride it all the way to 34th Street in Manhattan. The views are amazing along the ride — and, it's the same cost as a subway ride!
