With heavy traffic and expansive views, this is a prime location for long exposure photography. The bridge beams add a nice visual weight above the light trails of the expressway.

This location is on the overhead bridge near York Hill Road along the Central Expressway (CTE). The bridge is a prominent feature once you reach York Hill Rd. There are pathways on both ends of Chin Swee Rd that lead up towards the overhead bridge. Once on the bridge, face northeast towards the exit of the Chin Swee Tunnel to shoot a similar perspective.
By MRT:
- Closest MRT Station: Outram Park (North East Line and East West Line)
- Take exit “C”
- Head northwest on Outram Rd toward Outram Park
- Turn right onto Chin Swee Rd
- Proceed towards York Hill Road

All months of the year are suitable to photograph the CTE.
A visit after dark will allow you to capture the car light trails with your tripod. That said, photographing the moving cars in daylight is also nice.
Field tips
I suggest using a wide-angle lens (11-16mm) to maximize the depth of the expressway. Also, with a larger depth of field you will be able to incorporate a significant amount of light trails from the passing cars.
Use a tripod and be patient until the right amount of cars pass by. I positioned the tripod directly at the middle of the bridge in line with the perpendicular point of the bridge’s beams, creating a very symmetrical effect.
I used the rule of thirds where I tilted the position of the camera in such a way where the sky forms 1/3 of the shot and the expressway formed the other 2/3.
