The glittering lights of Hong Kong's bustling Central district are as constant as stars in the night sky. Soak in a panoramic view of this thriving metropolis from a scenic lookout point high above the city.

This photo of the Central district was taken from the lookout point on Lugard Road, a scenic pedestrian-only road on The Peak. To get here, I recommend taking the historical Victoria Peak Tram, one of the oldest funicular trams in the world. Navigate to MTR Central Station, take Exit J2, and walk to the lower Peak Tram terminus located on Garden Road for the scenic ride up to The Peak. Alternatively, you can take Bus 15 from Exchange Square bus station. Upon exiting the tram at The Peak Upper Terminus at the Sky Terrace, head straight until you reach Lugard Road. Follow Lugard Road for about 18 minutes, until you arrive at the Lugard Road Lookout point referenced in the GPS coordinates. From here, I set up my tripod and pointed my camera facing northeast out towards the cityscape and Central district.

With clear views of all of Hong Kong, Lugard Road is suitable for photography year round.
While the views from Lugard Road are wonderful any time of day, I recommend visiting at night in order to fully capture the beauty of Hong Kong all lit up in the evening.

Field tips

If you visit here at night, make sure to follow common sense safety precautions and bring a flashlight to help guide your way on the dark road. Pay close attention to road signs in the dark.
You'll need to use a telephoto lens or a lens with a strong zoom in order to capture this clear and crisp perspective.
I highly suggest using a tripod, especially if you decide to shoot here at night. It will allow significantly more flexibility to play with exposures while still keeping your shot stable.

Do nearby

Lugard Road offers some of the best views of the entire city, surrounded by lush jungle foliage. I recommend continuing along the entire road, as well as visiting the rest of Victoria Peak.
